Stan Adard (civil name Ralph Stucki, born 1954 in Schaffhausen, Switzerland) is a Swiss artist (digital art, video, music) and a pioneer in digital flow art. He is known for his breathing pictures, the breathing effect created through an algorithm that mimics human breathing patterns. Adard uses the possibilities of digital construction and animation to create seamlessly breathing pictures that lead people to more relaxed and deeper breathing, drawing also on principles of humanism, spirituality and psychology.

Biography
Adard graduated from the University of Zurich in social psychology, pedagogy and sociology. He received his lic. phil. in 1980 and worked (among other) as a teacher for autogenous training. In 1977 his passion for computers and future technologies led him to buy a first personal computer (a Tandy Radio Shack TRS-80) to experiment with. Together with his brother he founded a development company for electronical equipment and software. He has combined art with future technologies since the early eighties and won the first Swiss Video Days Award in 1983. Adard currently lives and works in Kienberg, Switzerland, is married, and has three adult sons.

Work
Stan Adard works with 3D modeling and rendering software to create his artwork. Each breathing picture consists of a series of individual frames that are brought together as an animation. Depending on the artwork, a single breathing picture is based on several hundred to several thousand single frames. The flow is ensured by a specially developed videoloop device.
